Aspen 5 + 6 Exhibit

Issues 5 and 6 of Aspen, an arts magazine, are now on exhibit in Schwob Library. The collection includes works by Roland Barthes, Susan Sontag, Morton Feldman, John Cage, Samuel Beckett, William Burroughs, Merce Cunningham, Marcel Duchamp, Dan Graham, Mel Bochner, Hans Richter, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Robert Morris, Stan, VanDerBeek, Robert Rauschenberg, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, and Claes Oldenberg.

Published in 1967, these combined issues contain great theoretical works such as Roland Barthes's "The Death of the Author," as well as musical scores by John Cage, records, grid sketches, film, and conceptual poetry.

Because of the limited amount of copies created, less than the 20,000 subscription base of the magazine, this collection, which ran for $8 in the 1960s (modern equivalent is $55), can cost ten times that price currently.

This exhibit is satellite of the Beyond the Grid/Into the Sublime art exhibit downtown at the Illges Gallery. It will be on display until November 15.
