March is Women's History Month
The month of March has been declared Women’s History Month. The 2012 National Women’s History Month theme is "Women’s Education – Women’s Empowerment" according to the National Women's History Project (NWHP) website. The NWHP is known nationally as the only clearinghouse providing information and training in multicultural women’s history for educators, community organizations, and parents-for anyone wanting to expand their understanding of women contributions to U. S. history.
In honor of women throughout the world,
America's News by Newsbank is featuring coverage of contemporary and historic issues, and newsmaking events in the life of women.
The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum have joined in paying tribute to the generations of women whose commitment to nature and the planet have proved invaluable to society. The Women's History Month website provides links to exhibits & collections, images, audio, video, and resources for teachers.
Be sure to test your knowledge and see if you can identify women of great vision and achievement.
Happy Women's History Month!
