CSU Libraries is currently trialing ProQuest's Academic Video Online (AVON).

AVON includes scholarly video material of virtually every video type: documentaries, interviews, performances, news programs and newsreels, field recordings, commercials, demonstrations, original and raw footage including tens of thousands of exclusive tiles.  There are thousands of award-winning films, Academy, Emmy, and Peabody winners along with the most frequently used films for classroom instruction, plus newly released films and previously unavailable archival material.

You can access AVON on campus only at:  http://www.galileo.usg.edu/express?link=acav-col1

The trial lasts until April 27th.

Please send your comments about your AVON experience to your departmental Library Liaisons:  https://library.columbusstate.edu/about_us/faculty_staff/faculty.php

Statistics to the Rescue!

Are you frustrated by the loss of access to government statistics?  Census.gov, Bureau of Labor Statistics and American FactFinder are all government statistical sources were either down or not being updated because of the government shutdown.  While there is no replacement for the comprehensiveness of these sources, CSU Libraries does have statistical resources that can fill the gap.

Statista gathers data from a variety of government, non-profit, and private sources and offers easily searchable statistics that can be downloaded as jpg, pdf and excel files.

Statistical Abstracts of the United States is a easily searchable statistical resource that gathers data from 1878 forward.  Previously managed by the Census, it is now offered through Proquest.

Both resources can be found in Galileo by clicking on Databases A to Z.

ProQuest Database Gets an Interface Lift.

The new ProQuest platform is designed to be user-friendly, intuitive, and engaging. The new clean look makes searches quick and easy. You can use the subject-area image representations of the databases to search a category. Or you can enter a quick search using the search box, and get results across all of the ProQuest databases available from the library. Start typing and the platform provides keyword recommendations, based on your entry using an auto complete feature.

Plus, you can personalize your research experience with your own My Research account with options to save, print, email, cite, export citations, and more. You can set some search preferences and even change the language interface to best suit your needs.

Here is a step by step Demonstration for you to utilize if you’d like a walk through before diving in. Again, we hope that you enjoy the new look and functionality.
