In the Land of Pasaquan

Eddie Owens Martin, who called himself St. EOM, was the visionary artist behind Pasaquan, his home and created environment in Buena Vista, Georgia.  His mind, body, and soul went into every facet of creation behind this utopian complex. St EOM began his artistic journey as a painter, but then quickly became a self- taught, multifaceted artist who created a style composed of many artistic traditions including influences from Meso-American, African, and Eastern art and philosophies.

Martin envisioned Pasaquan as a place where the past, present, and future could thrive under one roof, and St. EOM’s art work reflects these ideals.

Pasaquan is currently under restoration by the dedicated workers of Kohler Foundation Inc. An introductory preview of this unique culture will be displayed on the first floor of the Simon Schwob Library August 10th to September 10th on Columbus State University’s main campus. Venture into the Land of Pasaquan!

Spirit of Love Painting Exhibition

Come out to see David Knapp's painting exhibition, Spirit of Love, on Thursday 10/24/13 at the Simon Schwob Memorial Library on CSU's main campus at 6:30.

David Knapp will be graduating CSU with his BFA this December Summa Cum Laude.  He currently lives in Seale, Alabama with his wife Taylor Knapp, (soon to come) son Josiah and their dog Lucy.  David is interested in the spiritual and its relationship to art and explores these ideas in his paintings.

A message from the artist:

“Continuing and expanding on previous themes, I portray abstractions of fire, water, wind, and light along with the use of elements such as gold. I have continued experimenting with different techniques of application of paint and continue a predominately spontaneous process. This process builds from the seed of an idea, whether from an experience or a revelation, for each painting. I aim to follow my spirit, in tune with the Spirit of Love, while working on these paintings. Because I am a body, soul and spirit, however, all three influence the work. I paint in the physical and I am influenced by my mind, will and emotions (technical training, mood, etc.). That being said, my goal is to allow the spirit a predominate role in the process by tuning my body and soul to come into harmony with the atmosphere from which my spirit works.”

Love The Journey: Study Abroad Perspectives Through Art

CSU Student Emily Wagner

CSU Libraries, in collaboration with the Center for International Studies and the Department of Visual Arts, opened its new Schwob Library First Floor Art Gallery on May 4th with the exhibit "Love The Journey: Study Abroad Perspectives Through Art." The exhibit, curated by art major and Study Abroad participant Emily Wagner, features photographs taken by CSU students during their participation in CSU's various Study Abroad programs. Assisting Wagner in organizing the exhibit was CSU Study Abroad coordinator Maggie Miller. The black-and-white and color photographs portray people, architecture, landscape, and artistic performances from France and England to Mexico, and Japan.

The Schwob Library Art Gallery is the result of a collaboration between CSU librarians, and CSU Corn Center Gallery Director Hannah Israel. The purpose of the Gallery is twofold: to enhance the atmosphere of the Schwob Library Information Commons area, and to provide CSU students with a venue to exhibit their art. The current exhibit, in place until mid-June, is open to the public and is free of charge. CSU Libraries invite all CSU faculty, staff, and students to stop by the Main Campus Library and view the photographs produced by these talented CSU students.
