Well ... sort of. At the recommendation of the Dean of Libraries, Mark Flynn, the Columbus State University Libraries began offering the puck-shaped items in Feburary 2016. Created and distributed by Puck Charger Systems, an Australian company, Discgo is "a robust mobile phone charger that allows users the freedom to move around the venue or event while recharging. With Discgo, you don’t need to be plugged into a wall." Students may borrow a Discgo along with a charging cord for two hours while visiting the library. Each unit has two micro USB ports. A Discgo can be used to charge phones as well as tablets. A Discgo charging station holds 5 units. It takes approximately 2 hours to re-charge the units.
According to the Discgocharger.com website, Columbus State
University is the only U.S. college or university to offer the Discgo chargers
presently. According to U.S. News &
World Report, Columbus State University is among the top 50 best public regional
universities in the South. With its continued
commitment to meet the academic and technological needs of its students, it’s
not surprising that CSU would lead the way in offering the Discgo.
