Upcoming Book Talks at Simon Schwob Library

Upcoming Book Talks at the Simon Schwob Library

Tuesday, April 26th at 12:00 Noon

“The American Slave Coast” by Ned and Constance Sublette.

Authors Ned and Constance Sublette tell the brutal story of how the slavery industry made the reproductive labor of slaves referred to as “breeding women” essential to the expansion of slavery in the United States after 1808. The interstate slave trade exploded in Mississippi during the presidency of Andrew Jackson, drove the US expansion into Texas, and powered attempts to take over Cuba and other parts of Latin America.

Thursday, April 28th at 6:00 pm

“Well Worth Stopping to See: Antebellum Columbus, Georgia Through the Eyes of Travelers" by Mike Bunn.

In his new book, Mike Bunn explores the city of Columbus through the eyes of visitors during its first quarter century of development. This unique perspective from non-residents, from both across America and abroad, illuminate Columbus's colorful past. These candid, and at times humorous, accounts provide an insightful view on Columbus as it grew from frontier town to industrial power house between its founding in 1828 and the eve of the Civil War.
